Governor Green

Charlie (stable name) was purchased in September 2020 at the Goff HIT sales for £5000.00.

He was a risky purchase because his sire was new and had only had a few runners from a very few progeny.

He looked the part so we decided the risk was worth it at the price.

Pictured above the first day in the yard.  At three years old he looked a true NH horse.

His dam had won a Grade 2 Hurdle at Fairyhouse and his sire was a winning Grade 2 stayer and beaten a neck in the Ascot Champions Day Long Distance Cup over 2m on soft ground.

We thought we had purchased a 3 miler on soft ground horse.  Could we have been more wrong.........

Charlie is fast!  And at the moment a 2 mile hurdler on good ground.

On his first day on track expectations were low but a small glimmer of hope bubbled away in all of us.

Charlie went from being a very well behaved horse at home and in the parade ring to an absolute monster.  Pulling hard for most of the 2 mile NHF.  We all thought 'he'll stop in a minute' but we believe only the heavy ground that day stopped him.  We couldn't have been happier with him.  Crambo won that day and he went on to win the Novice Handicap Hurdle Final at Sandown.

On his second run (Warwick) he again pulled all the way, but after being cut up in running he stayed on well.

After this he wore a hood to help calm him down and settle better for his hurdling career.

He learnt well and run against Grade 1 winning horses in his Novice Hurdle and didn't disappoint once.

Believing that he was a stayer we stepped him up in trip for his Handicap Hurdle debut but hated everything about the race and couldn't get involved with the seasoned handicappers.  The jockey got off him and said to drop him back in trip.

He was then entered at Bangor on Dee for a 2 mile Novice Handicap Hurdle.  His price opened at 25/1 and he eventually went off at 10/3!  Charlie seemed really well in the preliminaries, stamping his feet and looking like nothing was going to stop him.  Going from the front and meaning business he won easily by 4.5 lengths.  We were all so excited and proud of him it's hard to put into words.  How many horses costing £5000 win?  We're lucky enough to have one.

We can't wait to see what the future has in store for him.
